When I was in high school I used to lock the door to my parents den in the basement and tell myself that I couldn’t leave until I asked out whatever girl had my eye at that point (Melissa, if you are reading this, I love you – I’m just using this as an example). I would seriously have to muster up all of my courage before taking the plunge and making the call. I'd psych myself right up: "you can do it, you can do it, you can do it!"

Web Strategy

A lot of people like to focus on social media, like Twitter and Facebook, when talking about web strategy. While I recognize both as valuable tools, I feel that 80% of website strategy revolves around having a simple, redundant and usable website. The other 20% is a combination of Social Media, Search Engine Optimization, and keeping it current.
As you can tell from this website, I’m all about keeping things simple and focusing on the user.

Web Design

It is hard for me to understate just how much I hate poorly designed websites. The attention span of individuals on the web is extremely short (I've heard you have between 7 and 11 seconds to show the user what they want to see), but for me, I think it’s even shorter than the average. Put simply, I go to websites looking to do something, and if I can’t accomplish what I’ve set out to do, I’m out of there in a flash.

Copy Writing

Just write. This has been the most valuable advice I have ever received regarding putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard. Don’t criticize yourself, don’t get stressed, just get moving and get into the rhythm of talking to your audience. In my opinion, the most underrated writing out there is in children’s books. They are short, interesting, colourful and simple enough for  two-year-old to understand.
